Maternity Photosession
Your prep guide
It’s almost time!
Firstly a massive thank you for choosing me to capture you and your bump - I love maternity session’s and I can’t wait to create some special images for you to keep.
We may have already had a zoom call or spoken about your session preference via email but this page basically answers the most common questions about what to expect, bring and timelines of viewing your images etc. If we haven’t yet don’t worry let me know and I can arrange this before your session.
Hair & Make up
I would say 90% of my clients normally book a MUA & hair stylist for their session, please book this before your session to allow travel time. Make up advice is always be yourself, don’t go over the top if you prefer a more natural look, go for the most glam that is ‘you’. You want to look back on these images and recognise yourself! Hair wise, a few waves/curls look best and photograph beautifully if you have naturally straight hair. If you have extensions or a weave again curls or texture looks fantastic. Please feel free to bring some clips, bobbles etc if you wish to change your hair mid session some ladies like to do a ponytail/bun.
Underwear to bring
Please bring a small selection of underwear, for dresses, skin coloured knickers and a strapless bra are the best choice. If you do want some set ups with just underwear feel free to bring black, white or whatever colour you like additionally.
Jewellery & Watches
Again this is a complete personal choice, If you are going for a quite contemporary look minimal jewellery works best, sometimes a nice pair of earrings set off the more dramatic dresses. Again though I want you to look and feel like ‘you’ if you normally wear jewellery defiantly bring some.
Dresses & Outfits for the session
Hopefully by this point in your booking process we will have discussed your preferences, all the gowns and larger dresses are all available in my client closet. I do also stock some neutral body suits, crop tops, black dresses, white shirts and chunky cardigans for those of you with a more simplistic taste. I would say though if you want to bring your own outfits please do.
Clothes for partners & children
For men I would suggest plain white/black shirt, smart chino’s or jeans and same for boys. Even a white/black plain t-shirt is a good alternative look. For women/girls I do have a stock of simple and also pretty gowns and dresses we can use or you can bring your own.
On the day
Please try and be on time, I do work to a strict structure and sometimes have clients back to back, I do normally allow about 1.5 hours for each session. If you are late this may eat up into your time. If you are bringing smaller children/siblings its advisable to bring some toys/tablet etc to keep them entertained in-between their photos. Snacks are great as rewards too (I am totally okay with food bribery for kids!)
The session will take roughly around one hour, I do have a mirror and sockets if you need to bring any hair equipment or to fix/check your make up. Before you arrive I will have designed a workflow to go with your outfit choices to keep everything flowing smoothly.
Knowing how to pose is not necessary I will guide you and I am super relaxed so we will have lots of fun :) all you need to do is turn up and be fabulous!
My goal is to shoot and edit around 15-20 images for you to select from.
Turnaround
Maternity images are ready between 2-3weeks max. Most of my maternity viewings are done via zoom or you can make an appointment to come back and view them with me in person. Digital files will be ready 24-48 hours after your selection. Prints and products can take upto 7-10 days to get to you.
If you have any further questions dont hesitate to ask - Warmest Regards Heather x
